New Ordu: the time of your life

2015-07-12

The fifth-generation bicycle of a model that has been highly successful in triathlon and time-trial is here. Its achievements include two top Ironman podiums and a bike split record in the most important triathlon competition.

Top time-trial performance

The Ordu was born to seize the moment. To help our users defeat time, snatching a few vital seconds off in a triathlon or a time-trial. We are now releasing a next-gen Ordu, which has all the features to face the most challenging races with optimal aerodynamics.

The new Ordu is endorsed by those triathletes who are looking for a new ride on a lighter, faster, more specialised bike and by elite road cyclists and pros who need an UCI-approved time-trial machine.

The new Ordu was first put to the test at the Tour de France time-trial on 4 July, when the members of Team Cofidis first officially hit the pedals of the new model. Sunday 12 July will be Andrew Starykowicz’s turn at Challenge Roth, and Team Cofidis’ again, at the team time-trial of the French Grand Tour.

Development process

The Ordu was the result of multi-perspective collaboration by Orbea designers and engineers, product and sales managers. Together, they came up with optimal design and functionality. Besides, the experts at Mondragon University were by our side to develop improved aerodynamic features, including the FreeFlow fork and the shape of the tubes. Together, we also performed tests with cyclists and triathletes in our quest for the best possible Ordu.

All this work bore fruit: a bike designed by and for racing people. Efficient, versatile, performance-oriented, easy to use and handle for both users and mechanics.

Since we also know you like making your own decisions, the new Ordu comes in a variety of sizes and colours, with an assortment of components to choose from and with various ergonomic designs.

Advantages

The new Ordu development process has resulted in a series of greater advantages:

Efficiency: Aerodynamic forks are usually designed to serve as aerodynamic frame tubes, optimised for directional movement in the wind. However, tension spring forward rotation and greater tyre width behind the fork against the wind as the wheel turns results in a high pressure, high resistance zone.

The FreeFlow fork deploys its blades out of this zone to reduce pressure and turbulence. Directional aerodynamics stays the same, but the bicycle is faster because the air flow in the FreeFlow fork is less chaotic.

To this we should add the developments resulting from our collaboration with the team at Mondragon University – that is to say, Orbea-exclusive features: the aerodynamic front design, reducing drag by 10% and lowering weight by means of the mini-taper system, and the Mondragon Tubeshape (special tube design), accounting for a faster bike under normal road cycling conditions.

Versatility: The new Ordu comes in one more size than the Ordu OME. It has been designed with a multi-sport geometry under the premise that there is no reason to settle for anything but perfect posture. The linear progression across sizes and the extremely wide range of saddle positions as a result of our symmetrical seatpost mean you will be able to fly on your bike. On the new Ordu, speed will be up to you and you alone.

Performance: The new Ordu can deliver optimal performance, courtesy of the integrated TriRig brakes. Likewise, out of all the materials available for carbon frame construction, composites offer the best light weight + robust structure + design freedom formula. The result is a functional design for optimised performance, along with comfort, durability and value over time. Using hatchback technology, we had inserted a Shimano Di2 battery in the rear wheel for easy access and assembly.

The new Ordu has been created to embody your training effort and re-enact it in the present, to be with you at those moments when it is just you and your bike. Those moments when time really matters and yet you lose your sense of time. The time when everything fits together. The time of your life.
