Pendrel misses World Cup title despite winning at Val di Sole

August 20, 2011

Defending champion Catharine Pendrel of Luna Pro Team won the final round of the MTB XC World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy. The Canadian biker finished in 1:25:07, beating Poland’s Maja Włoszczowska and Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå from Norway.

The biker of the Orbea-sponsored American team did what she had to do, but she depended on Julie Bresset’s finish place to retain her title. In the end, the Frenchwoman came in fourth to take the World Cup title, 40 points ahead of the final round winner.

Absalon finishes 4th and secures World Cup podium spot

The Orbea Racing Team came to this final test seeing it as a warm-up for the upcoming World Championships in Champéry, Switzerland. Julien Absalon was fourth in the round and third overall –quite an achievement for a biker who did not take part in all the rounds.

Iñaki Lejarreta finished 26th in Val di Sole and 22nd overall. He was satisfied with his results, but felt very tired after the past races. “I was off to a good start, but now I feel really tired, and the Cup requires you to be in optimal shape,” Iñaki said.

Now he needs to recover and get ready for the World Championships, where Julien wants to get the crown back. “Julien’s eyes are set on the World Championships and I’m sure he’ll fight for the title,” Absalon’s teammate remarked.
