Albert Moreno, in the top ten at Ironman 70.3 World Championship

Moreno, a member of Orbea Orca Triathlon Team, had made his debut at this very race last year, finishing 15th. This time, he landed a spectacular 10th place.
At the end of the past season, Albert Moreno told us that it was his dream to be a top-ten finisher at the Ironman 70.3. World Championship and that he believed he could accomplish this with adequate training this year. And he was right: Moreno, who is an Orbea Orca Triathlon Team, secured a terrific tenth place at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship held in Austria, in the alpine town of Zell am See-Kaprun.
Moreno is a very young triathlete (he is only 25) with a rising career. In 2012, he was runner-up at the Duathlon U23 World Championship. One year later, he climbed his first Ironman 70.3 podium in his debut as a pro in Aix-en-Provence. In 2014 – a turning point in his career –, he added another two Ironman 70.3 podium and was 15th in the World Championship. Great results, indeed.
Albert has a huge potential and is a hard-working athlete. He proved to be tireless this season, training even harder to leave behind the injuries that drove him away from top performance. ‘I’m in seventh heaven! Being a top-ten finisher in a World Championship isn’t easy, especially when you’re injured. But the setbacks made me stronger, showing that you can get what you want if you’re ready to fight for it,’ he wrote on Facebook.

The member of Orbea Orca Triathlon Team was one of the top-ten finishers, completing the race in 4 hours and 11 seconds. Finishing the swim in 24 minutes and 30 seconds, he was the 36th racer to reach T1, starring a spectacular recovery in the other two sections.
Flying on his new Orbea Ordu, Moreno became an unstoppable machine. He certainly knew how to take advantage of the bike’s light weight and new aerodynamic design, riding at an average speed of 40km/h and finishing the ride in 2 hours, 14 minutes and 32 seconds to reach T2 along with the 17 fastest triathletes.
In the footrace, he sweated it out to climb further up, squeezing himself into the top ten. ‘A little tired? I couldn’t have stood another kilometre.’ ‘Another leap in my career, in a difficult year.’ ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way.’ These were some of the tweets he posted after the race.
Among the best in Europe, too
Moreno’s 10th place in Austria adds up to his good performance at the Ironman 70.3 European Championship, held in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he was among the top finishers too: he was ninth, after being tenth the previous year. If was an amazing achievement indeed, especially after having two left toes fractured in May and thus being unable to train properly for some time.
Now, fully recovered and hungry for success, Moreno has his eyes set on his next challenge: Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote. Go for it, Albert!
