Santiago Lombo wants to reach the top at Spanish Open Enduro

The biker of Orbea Méribel Enduro Crew will participate in Big Ride Ojén to defend Spanish Open title.

Santiago Lombo of Orbea Méribel Enduro Crew will compete this weekend at the Big Ride Ojén, round one of the Spanish Open MTB Enduro. He has been waiting for this moment since he was crowned champion last year. And it was an unexpected achievement, as he had decided to compete just to ‘give it a shot’: ‘I had an enduro bike to train on descents. Some friends of mine encouraged me to race. I started off as 123rd and outpowered seven or eight riders on each descent. In the end, I landed a good eighth place. I enjoyed the experience; the descents were so technical. Well, from then on I raced in all the events, and I won,’ Santiago said.

Being the Spanish champion gives him credentials, but the Argentine biker of Orbea Méribel Enduro Crew is working hard to try and reach the top one more time. ‘Enduro MTB is growing fast. It opens the door to everyone; this is why there’re more and more people doing this sport, a higher level, and this coming race will even attract international bikers. So you have to prepare very well,’ he added.

Santiago is also entering two rounds of the Enduro World Series as well as Mega2rx (Enduro Megavalanche) in Vallnord, where he will join almost all his teammates. Good luck, Santiago!
