2014 edition, The Megavalanche at it´s pek!

2014-07-16

The queen of MTB gravity races had more to give than ever: extreme weather forecast and surreal atmosphere all the week long for his 20th edition. An incredible Megavalanche with ups and downs… obviously!

What a race ! Ok, Megavalanche is already a myth. It is already an incredible challenge to come down straight from the top to the bottom of the mountain, starting at 3300m and finishing 2500m of vertical drop lower… But this year, the 20th megavalanche took an other dimension. As never seen before, the sky was against riders : fog, rain, snow, cold, wind… A hard mix at the source of a crazy race.

Kind of challenge that Orbea Enduro Crew Riders like. For this one, Santiago “ Lampi “ Lombo was coming with his confidence from a strong performance inVallnord MaxiAvalancheKevin Lorenzato was there with all the knowledge of his first Megavalanche last year, aiming for improving his best Megavalanche rank.Aurélien Demailly, last year junior winner, was looking for an overall result in recognition of his work.

But Megavalanche isn’t an easy one. Turn on the charm is not enough ! Even with a strong commitment and a lot of work, nothing can work with a bit of luck for convenience. Anyway, the myth is here, and at this point, it’s time to rush.

Lampi

On the starting grid, Lampi is at the right place. No more pressure than needed for the tall guy from Alicante. Back in june, Lampi raced the Maxiavalanche in Vallnord and had nice results. All the crew is aiming for glory thanks to him…… But few minutes later, he’ll crash during the first corner. Sore ankle and no more hope for the big race. Get well soon guy ;-).

Pic Blanc, 10.14am

For the second year in a row, a Rallon is on the first line of Megavalanche. This year, the R4 is here ! The Megavalanche start. Kevin is ahead while Aurelien crash thanks to a ” lost “ rider. In Alpe d’Huez, mid race, Kevin is 15th. Dealing badly with the mud, he will lost precious time in the end and finish 66th. Few seconds later at this point, Aurelien is 25th. Few pedal stroke later, he deal with 20th rank. Howether, he’s suffering mud too and cross the line in 43rd position. Riders are exhausted in the end, but can be proud to be ranked on this incredible 20th edition of “ the mythic “ Megavalanche.
