Albert Moreno lands second in Alpe d’Huez Triathlon

2014-08-05

The member of Orbea Orca Triathlon Team shows he is in great shape with a month to go before the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in in Canada.

Albert Moreno is taking steps toward the Triathlon 70.3 World Championship in Québec, which will take place on 7 September. Moreno has just competed in the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon, where he took a nice second place in a time of 05:57:33.63. Rounding out the podium was another triathlete sponsored by Orbea: Gwenael Ouilleres.

Although he did not do that great in the swim – he was the ninth man to emerge from the water, 2 minutes and 50 seconds behind the first triathlete to arrive at T1 –, Moreno was amazing on his Orbea. The leader of the bike section said, ‘With 1.5km remaining to crown Alpe d’Huez, I reached the front and thought I had to be the first to get to the summit. I’d never imagined I could do this, and clocking the best time!’

The run was not easy for the member of Orbea Orca Triathlon Team. ‘Todd Skipworth and I were neck and neck at the beginning of the footrace (behind us the margins were broader). The first lap was tough. At first, I was 10” back; then, I caught him in lap two but he managed to break away. He was 10” ahead and I decided to stop for a while. He built more than a 5-minute gap then and Ouilleres was 2 minutes back, so I thought I could enjoy the final lap of this great triathlon. I was so excited I was second!,’ said Moreno.

The Catalan triathlete will next stop at Wiesbaden before heading for Canada.
