Albert Moreno, top-ten finisher at Ironman 70.3 California Oceanside
2014-03-30
Andrew Starykowicz blazed through the course on his Orbea to win the bike split.
Albert Moreno did a great job at Ironman 70.3 California Oceanside, earning tenth spot overall. Victory went to Jan Frodeno, the German triathlete who had won gold in Beijing 2008. Stopping the clock at 3:49:25, Frodeno posted a new course record.
Andy Potts exited first from the water. After him came Frodeno, and ‘record man’ Andrew Starykowicz started the bike nearly 2 minutes back. Potts and Frodeno pushed the pace from the start. At the 55km mark they had a 2-minute lead over the chasers.
But Starykowicz showed once again he is the best on the bike. In the final section of the cycling course in California, he attacked, caught the leaders and was the first to enter T2 with the best time in the bike split: 2:10:22.
Unfortunately, things turned out differently on the run, with Frodeno building on his lead on every kilometre to cross the finish line ahead of Potts and Sebastian Kienle, also from Germany. Albert Moreno did a good job in the half-marathon, finishing tenth at 1:15:19. Andrew finished 22nd at 4:15:12
Well done, Albert!
