Catharine Pendrel, happy with her new Orbea Oiz

2014-08-28

The Canadian racer of Luna Pro Team tells orbea.com how she became World Cup runner-up and prepares for the World Championships in Norway.

Catharine Pendrel looks really happy. Second place in the World Cup series is a good way to close out a season that could have been a failure due to a broken collarbone. ‘I’m really happy with this final part of the season. I was on the podium in all World Cup rounds, with one victory and two second places. In Méribel I got my 30th podium in the World Cup since I started racing with Luna Pro Team and Orbea, back in 2008,’ she says.

Now the Canadian biker wants to close out a remarkable season at the World Championships taking place in Norway (6-7 September). She is preparing for the upcoming event on her new Orbea Oiz. ‘I mounted it this past Thursday for the first time. It’s amazing. The geometry is like that of my Alma, so it was easy for me to change models. I have the 27.5” Oiz as my second racing machine,’ she explains.

About the new model, Catharine highlights its ‘perfect balance. It leads you down and uphill as wonderfully as it promises to do. I think Orbea makes the most competitive full suspension bikes of the whole XC world.’

Tactics for Norway: on the attack

Pendrel describes the Norwegian race in Hafjell as a course with several ascents and fast descents that demand concentration and strategy. Both her new Oiz and her old Alma are perfect racing bikes, so she will decide which one she will compete with only a few days before the event.

What she has already decided is her tactics: ‘I strongly believe I can grab a medal in Norway. I’ll give everything, as always. I do much better when I attack the course and ride aggressively. I’ll try to make things tough for my rivals. May the best woman win!’
