Catharine Pendrel wins gold at Commonwealth Games

2014-07-31

The member of Luna Pro Team took the technical course in Glasgow on her Orbea Alma, defeating Emily Batty and Rebecca Henderson.

Catharine Pendrel put on another fantastic show at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Canadian biker won gold in the MTB event, finishing over one minute ahead of Canada’s Emily Batty and Australia’s Rebecca Henderson, silver and bronze medallists, respectively.

The member of Luna Pro Team, who finished in a time of 1 hour, 39 minutes and 29 seconds, and her Orbea Alma handled masterfully the technical 33.6km course at the Cathkin Braes Country Park. This was the first time ever Pendrel competed at the Commonwealth Games, being the third Canadian to win the women’s mountain bike gold medal.

Pendrel took the lead on the first of six laps and managed to remain in control throughout. ‘If you get too focused on medals it gets to your head. I found myself by myself (at the front)… I didn’t expect that!’ But she was confident she could ‘push hard for an hour and a half.’

This has been a great month for the MTB World Champion 2011, who has recently renewed her MTB Canadian Championship title… Let’s hope she goes on doing this well!
