Jenny Schulz finishes 13th at Ironman Mallorca

2014-09-28

The German triathlete slipped out of the top ten despite the big effort made throughout the race.

Jenny Schulz was 13th at Ironman Mallorca this morning in Alcudia, on the north of the island. The Orbea-sponsored triathlete finished the race in 10 hours, 11 minutes and 37 seconds. The winner was Ireland’s Eimear Mullan, who made up the 7 minutes lost in T2 under the leader of the race back then, American triathlete Dede Griesbauer.

Ironman Mallorca consisted of a 3.8km swim in Port d’Alcudia, a 180km bike course up and down the mountains of the island, and a four-lap 42km run on flat ground on the beach.

The first to come out of the water was Norway’s Mette Pettersen, 15 seconds ahead of Dede Griesbauer. On two wheels, Pettersen was overpowered by the American triathlete, who reached T2 with a margin of more than one minute. In the footrace, however, Eimear Mullan unexpectedly made up the time lost in T2 to cross the finish line as the leader. Griesbauer and Germany’s Astrid Ganzow rounded out the podium.
