Katerina Nash silvers at Hoogerheide Cross World Cup!

2015-01-26

Katerina’s second place in Hoogerheide was an almost perfect result, showing her consistent form while taking the pressure off for next weekend’s World Championships in Tabor

Katerina Nash displayed her excellent form and technique at the Hoogerheide Cyclocross World Cup, beating the likes of world champs Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Marianne Vos to take second place at the finish. Silver medalist at last year’s world championships, Italian Eva Lechner won the series final event for her career first world cup win.

Early in the muddy race, Katerina allowed the other girls (like current world champ Marianne Vos) do most of the heavy work. Slowly Nash worked her way towards the top four, dropping Sabrina Stultiens and then battling with race fave European champion Sanne Cant. Katerina then took full advantage when the can-do Belgian crashed into the fences. Cant ended up in fourth by almost a minute back, but that was enough for her to still win the overall world cup series.

Even after skipping some of the world cup events, Katerina still finished the series in 8th overall. Nash built up her form early in the cross season by “race-training” and winning some select US events, closer to home. Then she went ahead and won the world cup in Namur, Belgium, and was second at the Zolder stop.

Katerina’s second place in Hoogerheide was an almost perfect result, showing her consistent form while taking the pressure off for next weekend’s World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic. A Czech original, Nash will have quite a few fans cheering her on in her native language.
