Luna Pro Team put up new cycling show at national MTB championships in US and Canada

2014-07-20

Catharine Pendrel won gold in Canada and Georgia Gould was the runner-up in the US.

The members of Luna Pro Team had a spectacular weekend, winning two new medals. Catharine Pendrel won the Canadian Championship and Georgia Gould grabbed silver at the USA Cross Country National Championships.

Pendrel wanted to show Canadians who the best Canadian biker is. This is why the tough trails in Oro-Medonte (Ontario) and the presence of Emily Batty were no obstacles to Pendrel’s clear victory in her homeland.

The Luna racer was really strong from the beginning, dictating her own pace and keeping Batty at bay. In the battle between the two, Pendrel managed to make her move and broaden the gap to finally go solo on the front, in a course she had not raced in since 2006. Batty, who could not do anything to neutralise her rival, landed second, while the three-time winner of Canada Cup, Sandra Walter, rounded out the podium.

Meanwhile, 400 kilometres south of Ontario, in Bear Creek Resort (Pennsylvania), Georgia Gould and Teal Stetson-Lee took part in the American race. Chloe Woodruff, who built up an astonishing speed from the start, was followed by Lea Davison and Gould herself. When Woodruff’s strength ebbed away, her two chasers overpowered her. From then on, the race was a battle between Davison and Gould.

Davison and Gould had made considerable physical effort, so the race would be decided in the final metres. However, Davison made her move on the first climb to take the lead, which she enjoyed till the finish line. Davison crossed the line 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Gould. Evelyn Dong broke into third, and Teal Stetson-Lee managed to finish within the final top 10 landing tenth.

Well done, ladies!
