Matt Sharp lands 12th in Triathlon World Series Hamburg

2014-07-13

The triathlete of Orbea Orca Triathlon Team was the third best British man, behind the Brownlees.

Matt Sharp finished 12th in the sixth race of the Triathlon World Series in Hamburg. The man sponsored by Orbea was the third best from Great Britain, as Alistair Brownlee won the race and Jonathan was third.

Henri Schoeman of South Africa split up the bunch forming a small group on the front and was the first to exit the water. Following T1, the 18-strong leading group was 35 seconds ahead of the pack, and they kept this distance until they reached T2.

Alistair Brownlee put a storming performance in the run. The only ones at his heels were his younger brother, Spaniard Javier Gómez Noya and France’s Vincent Luis. Jonathan was this close to grabbing victory from Alistair, or at least it seemed so at the 3.5-kilometre mark. Meanwhile, the Britons and the Frenchman dropped Gómez Noya behind to battle for the three podium spots.

The footrace was decided in the final stretch in a spectacular sprint. Alistair crossed the finish line two seconds ahead of Vincent Luis – the big surprise of the day –, and five seconds ahead of Jonny.

With two World Series events remaining, Javier Gómez Noya leads the rankings with 3,833 points, Jonathan Brownlee is second with 3,337 and Mario Mola moves down to third with 3,322 points.
