Orbea and Cofidis kick off the 2015 season aiming at growing stronger in the cycling elite

2015-01-24

Some 1500 people attended the presentation of the team coached by Yvon Sanquer and led by Nacer Bouhanni and Dani Navarro, who are ready to embark on their most ambitious season.

The team’s presentation took place in the velodrome in Roubaix this past Friday. The event was fabulous, with concerts, TV coverage and press reporters who were eager to hear the news about Cofidis-Solutions Crédits for the 2015 season.

After a year during which the team were not that conspicuous, team president Thierry Vittu took the bull by the horns and created a roster to match the skills of Nacer Bouhanni. Bouhanni is the principal signing of Cofidis-Solutions Crédits for this season. He is among the world’s greatest sprinters, which gives the team the strength they need to shine in the classic races.

After winning three stages in the Giro d’Italia and two in the Vuelta a España in 2014, Bouhanni has set new goals for this season: the Milan-San Remo, the Gent-Wevelgem, stage wins in the Tour de France and the UCI Road World Championships.

With the Frenchman focused on stage victories, Dani Navarro, the other team leader, will try and earn wins for Cofidis-Solutions Crédits in mountain stages, and fight for top overall spots in the Tour de France (ninth in 2013), the Critérium du Dauphiné (ninth in 2014) or the Tour of the Basque Country.

Consolidating the cycling project in the international elite

Also new for the team is the initiative Cofidis and Orbea are working on to ‘consolidate this cycling project in the international elite.’ To Orbea, this partnership will make ‘a perfect test bench for our new top-quality products for cyclists,’ said Orbea Marketing Manager Ander Olariaga.

Now Orbea will cater not only to mountain goats, as it has done so far with the Orca bikes, but to other types of cyclists as well, such as sprinters and classic race riders. Working jointly with Cofidis, Orbea will be able to design models that suit sprinters, featuring special forks and stiffer bottom brackets. New solutions for a brand-new era.

The opening race of the Cofidis-Solutions Crédits season is just around the corner, as the cycling calendar is marked 29 January for the Mallorca Challenge. Here the team will have a good chance to take the first of the 20 wins they expect to grab this season. And the first ever for Orbea and Cofidis-Solutions Crédits on the path they have decided to share.
