Shonny Vanlandingham reigns supreme at XTERRA Costa Rica

2014-03-30

The member of Luna Pro Team won the 1st edition of this race, marked by high temperature and a very tough course.

Shonny Vanlandingham won the 1st XTERRA Costa Rica, which she easily took in 2:51:08, 7 minutes ahead of the runner-up.

Canada’s Chris Jeffrey was the first to come out of the water in Costa Rica. Vanlandingham did well in the swim, emerging only 4:30 minutes behind the provisional leader. The heavenly white-sand, blue-water beach was suddenly invaded by jellyfish, making things difficult for racers. To this we should add the heat and humidity, which contributed to undermine the participants’ strength and confidence.

Vanlandingham caught Jeffrey up halfway down the bike ride. She waited for the more technical sections to speed up and reel her rival in. This was when the race as such came to an end. From then on, Shonny rode and ran solo for victory. Jeffrey finished after her, while Flo Dannah from Great Britain filled out the podium.

A stomach ache prevented Suzie Snyder from entering the race.

Well done, Shonny!
