Two Team Novo Nordisk riders finish within the top 10 in the last stage of Tour of California

2015-05-19

Andrea Peron and Martijn Verschoor reaffirm the great job done by the Orbea team in the most important stage race in the US.

The American squad Team Novo Nordisk put on an excellent performance in the 10th Tour de California. Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes cycling team, had Andrea Peron and Martijn Verschoor within the top 10 at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

All the members of the Orbea team did a great job. Verschoor finished 12th overall in the opening stage and landed 11th on day two. Javier Megías’s crash on day three did not affect the squad’s overall performance. Megías was in the breakaway of stage five, the day when Andrea Peron finished in the top 15.

Peron was outstanding in the time trial on day six, finishing only 1:35 behind the winner of the day and overall winner of the Tour of California, Peter Sagan. In the final eighth stage, the men of Team Novo Nordisk had to face a very hard queen stage marked by snow and mist, with Peron and Verschoor coming home 8th and 10th, respectively.

‘If I had a little more space, I’m sure I could have sprinted to a top 5 finish,’ Peron said. ‘It all felt right today. I finally got to really sprint, and Martijn and I worked perfectly together.’

This Wednesday, Team Novo Nordisk will race for the first time ever in the Tour of Norway. In the words of General Manager Vassili Davidenko, ‘the Tour of Norway brings together a very strong field and is a great opportunity for our younger riders to race at a high level and test themselves in breakaways.’
