Shimano Epic Enduro awakes the origins of enduro!

2014-04-10

90 km, 8 special stages, 4300m up and down, more than 10 hours on the bike… Here we are! Do you feel this sense of challenge that came over you?

This excitement tinged with fear is the essence of the enduro. The very first race was more an adventure than something else 10 years ago… It could be lost with the professionalization of the discipline. This is not counting on atypical events like Shimano Epic Enduro.

What better opportunity to test new equipment, physical preparation and minds? That’s why the Orbea Enduro Crew was in Mons la Trivial, Haut Languedoc. More than just a race, a test for each one of us at the beginning of this second season in a row. Simon André, Aurélien Demailly, Kevin Lorenzato, Julien Brugeas and Antoine Hoffmann-Massé were there to do so. From the earth of the night to the end of the day, this is an inside look as if you were part of us!

3.30am - Breakfast time! Earlier during the night, Simon leaved the place to live an " other " epic " day : later in the day, he will become a father!

4.45am – the dark night is broken by the pits light. Kevin is ready to fight for his first goal of the season.

4.50am - waiting for the start and looking for a bit of light, the crew is already working for you to experience the adventure live on social networks.

6.15am - the first special stage is over. Kevin and Aurelien check their bikes. They feel different in the dark night, but it's just a unknown feeling.

7.30am - sun rise coming soon! Clouds will go away thanks to the wind later in the day.

9.30am - 3rd special stage. Kevin pushed hard on the first loop to get a good ranking.

10.00am - back to the booth after the first loop. Kevin can be happy of his morning ride, he is 12th of the race for the moment.

10.05am - riders are now taking a bit of time off, recovering before next loop. Busy time for Julien, working on team's bikes to be sure all is ok.

10.20am - the race organizers provide a timing sheet to each rider, with the loop ranking. Aurélien is not satisfied of his first loop. Too much hesitation in the dark night.

10.30am - It's time to fight again. The next loop seems to be where the race will play out!

10.32am - Kevin feel strong and never seemed so happy to ride his bike.

11.00am - Sun is now out, weather is warmer and warmer, the hardest part is played now!

11.44am - Kevin is giving all the best to stay on the bike.

11.45am - He fell earlier in the 4th special stage, but tried to save time again.

12.30am - Aurélien is back in the game! His goal was to push other the limit to fight with big guns on the second loop. He's doing it well: the bike and the rider are looking as a single set.

2.05pm - after more than 9 ours of biking, Aurélien is still efficient on the bike. He feels very strong in the end of the 5th stage.

2.25pm - On his way to the french enduro serie, Aurélien can be proud of his skill. In the end of 75km, he feels fresh and is able to get the 7th ranking on the 2nd loop. Anyway, t's time to recover before being back at training soon!

17.00 pm - after so much pain and so much energy involved, Orbea Enduro Crew riders get the silver finish ranking. A little room to come back stronger next year.
