Passion for cycling

Having received your support during the Orbea Klasika Bilbao-Bizkaia and hearing your suggestions, we at Orbea want to continue to share with you our passion for cycling with a new cycling tourism event. This time, it will take place on the roads and mountain passes of the historic territory of Bizkaia. It’s an event that will combine emblematic locations with demanding passes that are unknown to many. The route of the Orbea Klasika Bilbao-Bizkaia is not one for someone just getting started in the world of cycling tourism; quite the opposite, it’s an event for advanced cycling tourists. For those who have survived a thousand battles, those who defy the law of balance and gravity.

The Orbea Klasika Bilbao-Bizkaia covers 128 km and 2,800 meters of positive elevation change. The very nature of the mountain passes, which cover a distance of nearly 5 kilometers, with slopes greater than 20% in some places, makes it advisable to use special gears.

The route of the Orbea Klasika Bilbao-Bizkaia takes us through a large number of towns. Its fantastic natural landscapes, including the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, and the numerous points of interest are worthy of special mention, from both a historic and a tourism perspective.

•Laida Beach

As already mentioned, we at Orbea are offering you a new challenge. A 128-km race with 2800 meters of positive elevation change that takes you through some of the most beautiful locations in the Historic Territory of Bizkaia.

The starting and finish lines for this race will be on Mt. Artxanda. Traffic will be regulated, but not cut off along the route, and so participants in the Klasika Orbea Bilbao-Bizkaia will not have priority except as permitted by current traffic laws and regulations. It will therefore be necessary to obey all traffic laws in order to avoid possible sanctions from both the traffic authorities and the organization itself.

Remember that irresponsible actions not only jeopardize your own personal safety, they also endanger others and the future of sports competitions.

The Klasika Orbea Bilbao-Bizkaia offers you a great challenge worthy of true cycling fans. The route design is based on the very characteristics of these klasikas that have given us so many great moments. It’s a medium-fondo event, but an incredibly intense one. An event in which the true protagonists, the participants, must save energy for the last thirty kilometers that will require them to squeeze out every last ounce of strength to reach the finish line.

Choice of gears

Remember that if at this stage of the season, you haven’t reached your maximum level, one thing that will save you will be the right choice of gears. Nobody but you knows what you can give. But remember, a 30 or even a 32 cog will get us out of a lot of tough situations and will enable us to enjoy the post-race pasta party with our companions.

With the “K” for Klasika and Kalidad Orbea.

After the race, there’s no doubt that we’ll proudly wear our Orca jersey that we worked so hard for. It’s the jersey that shows we’re true klasik enthusiasts. This garment will mark you as an expert cyclist. The “K” insignia stands for Klasika, but also for Kalidad; Orbea Quality.

At Orbea, we always work zealously so that everyone who participates in our events enjoys the best possible conditions. We provide a well-equipped health care unit, vehicles with medical assistance, auxiliary vehicles, support motorcycles, signalers and great refreshments. It’s a way of showing our appreciation for the trust you have placed in us when taking part in Orbea-sponsored events. We want you to enjoy them as much as we enjoy working for you.

It's a race without any classifications, but with personal marks and times intended for anyone who particularly loves the sport of cycling and enjoys life on a bicycle.
