Jenny Schulz claims European Long Distance Duathlon title!

Winner of bronze last year, the German triathlete grabbed her first gold medal in Horst aan de Maas this past weekend.

Jenny Schulz won the Powerman European Long Distance Duathlon Championship for the first time ever in Horst aan de Maas, Netherlands. The German triathlete was unbeatable on the bike course, finishing in 3 hours, 3 minutes and 54 seconds and defeating France’s Sabrina Godard Monmarteau and Denmark’s Susanne Svendsen.

Schulz finished third in the same race last year but returned to claim gold this time. The tough course consists of 15km run, 60km bike and 7.5km run across the maze-like streets of Horst.

Godard Monmarteau took the lead in the initial laps followed by Schulz, Svendsen and Isabelle Ferrer. On the bike, Schulz caught and passed the French athlete in the first 20km. When she arrived at T2, she had built up a 4-min gap.

When it looked like she would run to victory, a series of cramps slowed her down. But Schulz remained calm, controlled her power and crossed the finish line as the new European Long Distance Duathlon Champion.

‘I love racing here and I was pleased to come back after finishing third last year and win. The plan was always to go for it on the bike but I was surprised to build up such a big lead. But I clearly needed it because as soon as I came off the bike I started to cramp. I knew that I didn’t need to panic and I’m so happy to win,’ said Schulz.

Well done, Jenny!
