Pendrel and Orbea, World Cup MTB Champions!
2016-09-04
After the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the Luna Pro Team rider has earned her third title on the XC circuit, finishing third in the Word Cup in Andorra.
Catharine Pendrel topped off the year of her dreams in Andorra. After her medal in the Rio Games on her Orbea Alma, the Orbea rider has earned her third title in the World XC Cup. Barely two weeks after the excitement we experienced in Brazil, Pendrel has once again been crowned the best rider of the year, after the titles she won in 2010 and 2012. This is added to a long list of awards, including two victories in the 2011 and 2014 World Championships.
On a very demanding circuit, the two-time world champion fought from the very first lap to be among the leaders of the race and keep in check her main rival, Annika Langvad, with whom she competed for the World Cup title. Norwegian rider Gunn Rita Dahle dominated the race, while Jolanda Neff secured the second place position. In the last lap, Neff overcame Dahle and took away the victory.
The Orbea rider rode a very intense race, in which she held onto the third place position, keeping Annika Langvad at a safe distance to earn the points she needed to climb the podium once more as circuit champion.
Besides the individual victory, the Luna Pro Team also won the team victory, which raises our joy to a whole new level. It was the hard work of the entire team: Catharine Pendrel, Katerina Nash, Eva Lechner, Georgia Gould and the team staff, made up by Waldek Stepniowski, Chris Mathis, Dusty Labarr, Julien Brugeas and Álex Jabonero that made our dream come true.
Congratulations Catharine!
Congratulation Luna!
Hurray for the Luna Pro Team!
